I was always evasive when it came to blogging. I had deep thoughts back in my teen age if I had to really shell a bomb to build a blog.

I really imagined and concluded that it might put a dent on my wallet and I had no clue if it’s going to benefit me down the line. 

In fact, I Love writing but there was always a part of me which was confused if it’s going to be read by people? Will I be able to convey what I really want to and so on and so forth?

After a lot of failed efforts on trying to understand how to create a blog and after listing down the requirements to build a blog, I finally learnt that it was not hard after all.

A blog is a Website that mainly focuses on written contents. It is also called as blog posts. 

Anyone can write a Blog post on any topic imaginable. 

A blog is created with an intent to share the ideas with likeminded people.

A blog also allows the blogger to interact with the readers and further the connection.

It also helps build trust in the readers mind thus facilitating a strong bond which in turn facilitates the blogger to earn money from the blogs.

Requirements for a Blog

Requirements for a blog? Yes, you read it right. There are couple of things that you need while creating a blog. 

Don’t worry, I’m not going to suggest a list to be purchased. I’m sure you would already be having these without which you won’t be reading this article in the first place. 

  1. Laptop/Desktop/iPad

Oh! this is the very basic requirement… How would you write if you dint have a Laptop or a desktop or an iPad? 

You may think holding a mobile might solve the problem, but honestly No. 

You should definitely have a Laptop /Desktop or an iPad.

Our present generation own either of these as a mandate. Lol! Thanks to the technology. 

2. Website 

It is recommended that you have a website that houses all your blog posts. 

It becomes easy for the readers to connect to all your blog posts and you actually build a personal brand in doing so. 

3. Passion

Above all, you need Passion to write. If you want to be successful in blogging, you need to keep giving contents and not just any contents, but contents that matters without which you won’t get any traction. 

In blogging, Consistency is the key. It’s very important you write at least 500 words every day. It’s a long Journey but worth every mile. 

Now that the requirements are listed, lets understand how to create a blog ?

  1. Identifying the Talent, Passion and what market needs

 The first step to creating a blog is to identify the niche. We need to be clear on what we are going to write. In order to identify the niche, you can first pick a piece of paper and list down your talents and what you are good at. 

You can also list down what you are passionate about. This will help you derive at a conclusion once you identify what the market needs against what you can offer.

2. Market Research

After you have identified your talent and passion, do a market research to understand What people are looking for, what contents are mostly searched. 

You can use free keyword research tools to do the market research.

3. Choose a Single Niche 

It’s advisable to choose a single niche and not focus on multi niche. 

This is very important because, readers might tend to get confused because you would be discussing on multiple topics that might not make sense. 

If you are creating a blog from which you wish to earn, then multi niche blog is definitely a bad idea. 

There are various niches to choose from .You can choose 

Food ..

Fitness ..

Beauty ..


In fact you can also blog about your experience if you love travelling ..

Options are too many. 

4. Building a Content Calendar. 

Content calendar is a planned schedule of when and where you plan to publish contents.

It’s more like a tabular form and when you plan, you would be able to manage time and strategize your posts in a better manner.

Create a Domain for the Blog.

After you have identified your niche, next step is to…

  1. Create a domain for the blog. 

So, how do you do that? 

Make sure it is relevant to the niche you choose. You can’t call your blog digimania when you are going to write about food. Can You? Lol!

Always ensure it is easy to remember….

A blog represents the blogger, a reader must be able to relate and remember your blog name without having to drill deep to get to your blog. 

Make sure the name isn’t confusing… Well, let me give u an example.

Everyone knows Flipkart, the spelling of Kart is actually KART and not CART. 

If someone who doesn’t know Flipkart starts searching they might end up typing cart instead of kart. 

See, it can be very confusing…

2. .Com extension 

While choosing an extension, I Strongly recommend you to go for a .com extension because a .com domain lends credibility to your brand.

And It’s purely optional. Feel free to choose other extensions as well. 

3. Buy a Domain and a Hosting

To get your blog up and running you need two things: 

Domain Name and 

Blog hosting (also known as web hosting). 

Let me quickly explain Domain name and Web hosting. 

Web hosting is the place where all the files of your website live. It is like the home of your website where it actually lives.

A good way to think about this is If the domain is the address, then web hosting is the plot of land where you’ll actually build your house. 

It’s as simple as that.

The good news is that these typically come packaged together.

Some of the domain providers are Godaddy or Name cheap and hosting services are A2,Wpx and Hostinger. 

Feel free to choose …There is no stopping. 

But you can also create a blog on Medium which is absolutely FREE.

You just need to sign into Medium and Start creating blog post. 

4. Build the website

After you have purchased the domain name and hosting, you need to build your website. 

You can create a blog on WordPress and you can build your site because they have a lot of theme to offer and most importantly you don’t need to wait for a web developer to assist you. 

Creating Outline for the Blog Post

It is very important to create outline for your blog posts before you start writing. 

The purpose of an outline is to help organize and check if ideas connect to each other, or whether some points need more support. 

It helps give an overall picture.

So, how do you create an Outline. You can do this using Mind Maps. 

There are various tools in the market to build mind maps. You will see the clarity that it gives once you build your mind map. 

I have personally tried Mindmeister. Check the visual representation of the blog post using Mindmeister .

Create Content 

While creating contents, there are important points to bear in mind.

  1. Choose an Attractive Headline 

A reader decides to read your blog only if your headline attracts them. An alluring headline stimulates curiosity and encourages clicks.

2. Introduction

Use the first paragraph of your post to clearly define the topic of your article and provide a possible hook to keep the reader reading.

3. Create InDepth Contents 

The longer the content better the blog. But break it up. Readers always enjoy titbits.

4. Use Images 

Always use images that are relevant to the contents. You can also include your own image or drawings.

5. Engage the Reader

At the end of your blog post, a common tactic used to engage readers is posing a meaningful question to your audience asking them to reply in the comments.

6. Avoid Plagiarism

Do not copy from other sources. Use original Content.

7. Use Simple Language 

Keep the language simple and easy for everyone to understand at the same time making it interesting. Avoid grammatical errors.

Once you follow the above guidelines to the T and create contents, Now all that you have to do is Publish and Promote…

Creating a well-designed blog and writing great content is just the start.

In order to get readers for your blog you will need to spend some time promoting it. So, how do you do it?

  1. Product — A Product can be a tangible or an intangible good that meets the needs or wants of the consumers. While creating a product , one has to have a clear grasp on what your target audience wants and what makes it unique. The product should have its own USP(Unique selling Proposition) to tap the market. This is where we focus on the Niche.
  2. Price — Once a concrete understanding of the product offering is established, we will have to move on to the Next P which is Price. Price determination is a very important step that will determine the profit margin, supply, demand and the strategies.
  3. Promote — Now that we have a product and a price, it’s time to promote it. Effective promotion requires dissemination of differentiating product information to consumers. There are multiple ways to promote which is not limited to Advertising, publications, Digital marketing and more. Each touch point must be supported by a well positioned brand that will maximize the Return on Investments(ROI).
  4. Place — We have already mentioned this at the beginning of this article. It is to provide right information to the right consumers at the right place and at the right price and at the right time.It is Imperative and critical to identify the location or geography where you are going to position the product.

  2. Push Marketing — The Communication is pushed to the audience irrespective of whether they want to receive the communication or not. Some of the Push Marketing strategies are Email, Newsletters, Referral networks, user incentives, Social media, paid advertising. Good marketing is all about good communication. A communication has to be simple and clear for the audience to understand it better.

What makes digital marketing different from traditional marketing?

Both the marketing techniques have their own pros and cons.

  • If the product is generic with a very wide targeting group, TV ads can reach millions of people at a very low cost thus making traditional marketing very effective.
  • There are some chunk of people who still adopt to traditional methods like radio and newspapers and these people can be targeted easily over the conventional method of traditional marketing
  • Unlike traditional marketing, unlimited content can be placed on the internet thus making digital marketing very effective
  • Online Contents can be localized based on geographies
  • Comparison and testing is very much possible over digital marketing
